The New Colony Gets a Shout-Out
Kris Vire, theatre editor for TimeOut Chicago, gave us a shout out a couple of days ago in a post on his blog, Storefront Rebellion.
Kris’s post was about the various ways that theatre companies have recently dealt with unfavorable reviews of their shows. Juxtaposed against a Boston company’s response to a negative review, Kris had quite a bit of praise for TNC’s own response to Zac Thompson’s unflattering review of FRAT in march.
We’d just like to think Kris for the shout-out and for being a great friend to TNC in general. We’d also like to congratulate ourselves for winning this particular blog post. Because that’s how it works, right?

New Colony Friends Find Success!
Well, things are getting sunny and bright here at The New Colony. In the last week, two of our company founders as well as several dear friends of TNC have received some much deserved (and exciting) attention!
Let’s begin with company founder Michael Peters enjoying sold out performances with TimeLine Theatre’s History Boys. The Chicago Tribune recently announced TimeLine’s intentions to extend through the summer. Though we don’t recommend waiting to buy tickets. As one of the hottest shows running in Chicago – we expect all available seats to be grabbed up soon!
The Non-Equity Jeff Awards Nominations have been announced, and we’re thrilled not only by the three acting nominations for Torch Song Trilogy (Directed by Artistic Director Andrew Hobgood, Assistant Directed and Sound Design by Executive Director Gary Tiedemann), but the nominations received by our friends:

And lastly – recent blog debater John Pinckard received a Tony Nomination for Best Special Theatrical Event with Slava’s Snowshow. We’re very proud of John’s accomplishment, and can’t help but feel like we played a little part in this honor. His show was, after all, nominated after we had published his and Benno’s conversation about Ironic Musicals. Perhaps it could be coincidence…but we like to think it’s not. So we look forward to hearing back from John about what he wants us to wear when we walk down the red carpet with him. And we’ve also written up an acceptance speech. Which we intend to deliver no matter who wins. So we happily close out this little congratulations with a heartfelt “You’re Welcome, John.”
FRAT: Webisode!
Hey! Did you see FRAT? Are you wondering what kind of shenanigans those boys got into that weren’t in the show? Sure you are! Here’s a little taste of FRAT-style bonding featuring Luke, Andy, Ross, Todd, and Katie.
Also featured here is indisputable proof that the characters do, in fact, change their clothes from day-to-day. Except Luke. Oh, Luke.
Our thanks to Jay “Jaybones” Patton and Adam “Nickname” Biagianti for their invaluable help with filming, editing, and…uh…sounding this thing for us. Be on the lookout for Jay’s new project, thebutterhouse.net, coming soon!
Oh, yeah, get your tickets to FRAT, and check out the ePlaybill!
About the New Colony
The New Colony was founded by a group of young, professional actors, writers and directors in Chicago, dedicated to the creation and production of exciting, original theatrical experiences.
Having worked in and out of Chicago and after establishing their careers with honors such as writing scholarships, winning the World's Playwright Competition, and invitations to theater festivals around the country - including The New York International Fringe Festival where they have been recognized for Outstanding Musical (2006) and Best Music and Lyrics (2008), our founders decided to collaborate their efforts in the form of The New Colony.
Determined to capture Chicago’s theatrical roots of risk-taking, innovative theater and story-telling, The New Colony sets out to create a theater experience that will welcome, engage and immerse our audiences; making them feel like they are a member of the New Colony community rather than just an anonymous observer.
